Caterbook allows you to send email using your own email account, to reduce the chances of emails being tagged as spam before they reach your guests.
If you are using Gmail as your email provider, the default values you should use under Settings / Property / Email / SMS settings are:
- Mail Account used as sender: Your Gmail address (e.g. yourhotel@gmail.com)
- Mail provider: SMTP - (Your email account)
- SMTP use ssl: OFF/0
- SMTP server hostname: smtp.gmail.com
- SMTP password: Your Gmail password*
- SMTP port: 587
- SMTP server user: Your Gmail address
NOTE * : You may need to create and use an app-specific password solely for Caterbook.
To do this, log into Google and select your account Settings.
Click Security from the left hand menu.
(This next step may be optional, you might already have done this in the past. If you don't see App passwords, but 2-Step Verification you'll need to configure that first)
Set up 2 Step verification.
Now you've done this, you can create an App password for Caterbook. Going back to the Security menu:
and then click "App passwords".
On the next screen, in the drop down click Select app
add a recognisable name, like app.caterbook.net, and Generate
You can then click and drag to copy the generated password
and paste it into the SMTP server password field in Email / SMS Settings of Caterbook.
Be sure to use the blue "Send Test Email" button to make sure you have configured this correctly. You should receive an email confirming successful configuration:
